Relationship between Strategic Leadership and Learning Organization: A Field Study at Banks Operating in Sana’a, Yemen

Abstract
The study aimed to identify the relationship between the strategic leadership
and the learning organization at banks operating in Sana’a, Yemen. The
study used the descriptive and analytical method, and a questionnaire was
designed to collect data from the study sample which was selected by the
random stratified method. The sample consisted of 404 members from
supervisory positions at banks which represent the population amounting to
(2082). The partial least squares modeling (SEM-PLS) was used to test the
hierarchical model with (SmartPLS v.3.2.9). The study revealed that the degree
of strategic leadership practice by the study population scored a high level at
a relative weight (68.05%), where the dimension of visionary communication
scored the first rank at a relative weight (70.01%) and the dimension of
core competences and balanced scorecard scored the last rank at relative
weight (67.0%). Further, the degree of learning organization practice scored
an average level at a relative weight (64.90%), where the dimension of
collective learning scored the first rank at a relative weight (68.7%) and the
dimension of self-excellence scored the last rank at (62.8%). There was also
a statistically significant relationship between strategic leadership and the
learning organization in the banks under study. The study recommends that
Yemeni banks in Sana’a should continue the strategic leadership practices
and enhance this practice by providing all possible means to discover and
invest the elements of core competences in those banks, such as information,
intellectual capital and customer relationship.
