Abstract

The current study aimed to examine levels of critical thinking skills among the students of the faculty of Education at Taiz University- Al Turba Branch, based on these variables: gender, study level, and major. The sample of the study consisted of (189) students from the 1st level (male and female), and (87) students from the 4th level (male and female). The sample was selected using stratified random method from four majors: (Quraan, English language, Physics, and Mathematics). The study used the translated form of Watson Glaser test (shortcut photo) WGCT-SF as a tool to measure critical thinking skills. It consisted of (60) items, distributed into (5) sub-tests each of which measured on critical thinking skill. The results of the study showed that the degree of critical thinking among members of the sample of the study was below the acceptable average, which was (60%) of the total test score. The results of the study also revealed that there were no significant differences according to gender. Besides, there were significant differences in the level of critical thinking according to study level of the sample in favor of level four students, and there were significant differences according to major in favor of English language. In addition, there was correlation the study level and gender variables.
