Abstract

The study aimed to find out the psychological health level among a sample of talented and ordinary students at schools in Ajloun Governorate / Jordan, and its relationship with some demographic variables (such as gender, class, educational level of parents) and academic achievement. To achieve the study objectives, the researcher used psychological health test that was prepared according to Maslow’s humanistic theory. The validity and reliability of the test were statistically verified. The sample consisted of (100) of talented students, and (172) of ordinary students. They were selected by using stratified random sampling method from high basic and secondary schools. The data was analyzed using means, standard deviation, T. test, ANOVA and the correlation coefficients. The results showed that psychological health level between the talented and ordinary students was high, and there weren’t any statistically significant differences (α≤ 0.05) of the total psychological health scores between talented and ordinary students with regard to class variable. There weren’t any statistically significant differences of the total psychological health scores between talented and ordinary students regarding the gender variable (males and females). But there were statistically significant differences (α≤ 0.05) of the total psychological health scores among ordinary students regarding two variables: class variable, in favor of Seventh grade, and the educational level of mother in favor of secondary school level and below. There was a positive correlation coefficient of the total psychological health among ordinary students and the academic achievement. The results were discussed in light of the theoretical framework & previous studies; and based on the study results some recommendations were proposed.
