Abstract
This study offers a critical and analytical examination of a significant historical work authored by the Omani historian Ibn Ruzayq. It aims to explore his historical methodology, evaluate the sources he relied upon, analyze his rhetorical style, and uncover the political dimensions that influenced his historical narrative. The importance of this research lies in its effort to restore attention to this neglected historical source, which has received less scholarly focus compared to the widely recognized Al-Fath al-Mubin fi Sirat al-Sadah al-Busaidiyin, despite the overlap in their content and historical accounts.
The study adopts an analytical approach to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the text, alongside a historical-critical method to position the work within the broader epistemological map of Omani historical sources. A narrative method is also employed to clarify and critique key historical episodes. The findings indicate that Ibn Ruzayq followed a distinctive approach that combined narrative with critical analysis, drawing on a variety of sources—some of which suffer from issues of verification. The study further reveals a pronounced political influence on certain aspects of the work and highlights the significant role of the author’s rhetorical and literary style, which enriched the historical content with poetic and prose elements.
