Abstract

The aim of the study was to identify the effect of Bybee Constructive Model in 8th grade students' achievement based on the perception levels of the Trends of International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS). The sample of the study was 145 female and male 8th grade students in four schools in Sana'a, two male and two female. The experiment group consisted of 40 male and 35 female 8th graders, while the control group was composed of 33 male and 37 8th graders. The instrument used for data collection was a test that was developed based on the perception levels determined in the Trends of International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS). For data analysis, T-test, Analysis of covariance (ANCOVA), and Eta squared to measure the effect of size in order to test the hypotheses. Results reveal statistically significant differences in the mean scores of the students of the experiment and control group in the total mark of the posttest in favor of the students of the experiment group. The study also reveals statistically significant differences in the mean scores of the students of the experiment and control group in the levels of the achievement posttest in favor of the students of the experiment group.
