Effectiveness of a Cognitive Games-Based Program in Developing Creative Thinking of Kindergarten Children in Amman City

Abstract
The study aimed at investigating the effectiveness of a cognitive games-based program in developing creative thinking of KG children. The sample consisted of (49) 5-6 years old (male & female) children from two government KG schools in Amman. A pre-posttest quasi-experimental design was used. A follow-up test was also used with the control group. The design consisted of two groups: experimental (n=24), and control (n=25). To achieve the objective of the study, a program based on cognitive games was developed; and to measure the children’s creative thinking, the Torrance Test of Creative Thinking (Circles) was used. The results indicated that there were significant differences in the means of the creative thinking skills and total score between the experimental and control groups in favor of the first one. There was no significant effect of the interaction between gender and program variables in any of the creative thinking scores except of the originality score. There were also no significant differences in the means of the creative thinking scores between the post and follow-up test. According to the study results, the researchers concluded that the program developed for the study was effective in developing creative thinking for KG children, and recommended to use it in KG schools.
