الملخص

Partnership Between Universities and the Private Sector Institutions and its Application Obstacles from the View Point of Faculty Members at Yarmouk University – Jordan

Abstract

The current study aimed at determining the level of partnership between universities and the private sector institutions and its application obstacles from the point of view of faculty members at the University of Yarmouk. It also aimed at knowing the degree of the difference of views according to different variables of sex, specialty, job title, academic rank, and experience.

To achieve the purpose of the study, a questionnaire has been developed consisting of 54 items covering four areas: ( partnership success requirements, the productivity of parties that the university has partnership with, areas of partnership, and obstacles of partnership). Moreover, the validity and reliability of the questionnaire were verified. 

The study sample consisted of (240) faculty members, randomly chosen from the study population of (608) faculty members.

The results of the study indicated the following:

  1. Faculty members estimated the level of partnership between universities and private sector sector was average on all areas of the partnership with a mean (3.35), as the area of "partnership success requirements" ranked first with a mean (4.11), then the area of "productive parties that the university has partnership with" ranked second with a mean (2.75), while the area of "areas of partnership" ranked last with a mean (2.71).
  2. There are statistically significant differences regarding all the areas of the study attributed to the variables of: sex and specialty in favor of males and scientific colleges consecutively.
  3. There are no statistically significant differences regarding all the areas of the study attributed to the variables of: job title, academic rank or experience. 
  4. As to the partnershJip application obstacles, the phrase "inadequate legislative regulation" ranked first with a mean (4.12), while the phrase "occupied the paragraph "sufficiency of private sector institutions experts to solve their work problems" ranked last with a mean (2.11).

In light of these findings, the researchers recommended anumber of recommendations, including:

  1. Changing the administrative structure of universities and colleges by introducing administrative jobs to connect these institutions to the environment and society.
  2. Encouraging the university to establish consultative and advisory centers within it to serve the private sector.
