Abstract
This work reports the finding of a systematic study conducted on a slurry pot tester to establish the effect of concentration of multisized particles on erosion wear. The erosion patterns for different particle concentrations ranging from 0.063 to 6 wt %, was investigated for the removal of polymer paint film
coating on a stainless steel cylindrical specimen.
The wear rate of copper and carbon steal specimens for different particle concentration ranging from 0.75 to 6 wt % was determined. The erodent particles were silica sand and the test speed was 18 m/s. The results showed that the pattern of paint removal depends upon the concentration. For concentrations below 1.5 wt %, a single particle impingement was the dominant process. The wear rate of carbon steel
and copper decreases with increasing concentration which reflects the particle interactions. It is also
observed that the degradation of particles is time dependent as well as independent of concentration.
