Since wireless technology could positively influence higher education, UST tries to take advantage of the emerging wireless technologies such as WiMAX for different services in the university. A survey was carried out in this paper to find out the readiness of UST and its need for wireless technologies, especially WiMAX. In order to assist UST to decide as well as get ready for deploying its own wireless network using WiMAX technology, this paper tries to provide a picture for the current position of UST relating to the infrastructure and the need for wireless networks. Results have been demonstrated and discussed including information about owning, using mobile devices, awareness, future trends of wireless technology and services among students, faculty and staff of UST.
Results show that the majority of people in UST including students, faculty and staff prefer to use laptops rather than smart phones or PDAs. Moreover, they believe that wireless network services in UST are important and will benefit their studying, working and teaching.
