الملخص

In most of the third world countries until recently, there has been little or no official housing policy or
planning for housing. For example, out of about 128 nations in the third world surveyed by the United
Nations in 1974, analysis shows that all but 30 had a partial housing policy.
The theme of the current work is that planning of housing is mainly guided by the political system. Since
British invasion in 1839, Aden has experienced three different political systems. These were Colonial, Post-independence and Post-state unity periods.
The aim of this study, therefore is to investigate:
1. Housing policy in Aden during the three consecutive political systems.
2. Urban pattern as a consequence of the applied housing policy.
