Women Education and Gender Disparity in Nigeria; A Case Study

Abstract
Education is a great indicator and one of the most significant tools to empower woman globally, Education is recognized as a fundamental human right of every child in the world, Gender disparity in education however remains a huge concern nowadays in developing countries, such as Nigeria, Despite several national and international legal instruments such as the Strategy for the Acceleration of Girls Education Program (2003), the Child Rights Act (2003) and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). In Nigeria today, many women still face challenges preventing them from access to education, especially in rural and semi-urban areas. several researches have shown that Nigeria has the population of over 200 million, but has approximately 14 million out of school children, making it the highest number in the world, and girls make up 60% of this number. It is on this basis, this article will focus on the theme of women education in Nigeria, the challenges and prospect. The paper concluded that the importance of women education helps to Break the cycle of poverty in the family and community, reduce gender - based violence and equally boost the Economic development of a nation.
