ABSTRACT
This paper analyses the experience of higher education system in the Republic of Yemen in quality assurance and accreditation through a number of themes. First theme provides an overview of the reality of higher education in the Republic of Yemen and its various institutions . Second theme includes the conceptual framework of quality assurance and accreditation based on open systems theory that helps in understanding the evolution of the quality concepts. The third theme reflects the role of international organizations in quality assurance and accreditation as a response to the local, regional and global challenges. It reviews the continuing efforts of Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, expertise and experiences of various international organizations. The fourth theme reviews the reality of a culture of quality in the Yemeni's higher education and the indicators of the quality of university performance. It reflects the activities and various efforts that have taken by the State and academic institutions to promote culture of quality and raise awareness of the importance of implementing measures to improve the quality of university performance. The fifth and final theme offers some important lessons that can be learned from the analysis, in order to give the decision-makers and academics a clear picture of that experience. This will help them to continue the improvement processes and corrective actions to stand in front of the challenges, move forward towards the development of the performance of Yemeni universities, and improve their outcomes for the purpose of quality assurance and accreditation in the near future.
