Abstract

Abstract : This study aimed to calculate the drop- out rate among graduate students, to identify the causes behind educational drop-out in graduate studies, to find out the effect of the variables (sex, age, faculty, GPA) on drop-out rate, and to propose appropriate treatments for drop-out. The researchers used a descriptive approach in this research. The study sample was (65) students (20%) of the community, which consisted of (333) students who dropped out of graduate studies. To collect the needed data the researchers developed a questionnaire consisting of (42) items distributed to the four domains (personal reasons, educational reasons, social reasons and financial reasons).

The results of the study:

-   The department of Business Administration has the biggest dropped out rate among graduate students, followed by the department of Islamic studies.

-   Financial reasons came on top of the causes of students drop out followed by social reasons. Then academic reasons, and finally, personal reasons.

-   There are no significant differences due to the variables (sex, age, GPA).

-  There are no significant differences due to the variable "faculty" (Humanitarian, Scientific), in the first, second, and the third domain whereas there is significant differences in the forth domain in favor of the scientific faculties.

Recommendations:

-    There is a need to help students overcome the financial problems by instalments or loans and grants.

-         Help students overcome the problem of selecting the topic of the study, and direct them to society issues and problems that need appropriate solutions.
