The reality and challenges of scientific publishing for university professors in the Sultanate of Oman in light of the analysis of reference activity

Abstract
The study aimed to analyze the reference activity of the reality of scientific research publishing and the challenges encountering academic professors in the publishing processes in the Omani universities. It used the descriptive approach and the interview as a tool that was administered to (80) academic professors by analysing the reference activity. The study concluded that: The reality of scientific publishing in universities Omani education is represented by (large teaching loads on professors, weak demand for scientific research, lack of scientific competitions in the field of research, lack of interest in humanities research and interest in scientific research, lack of research support, failure to adopt research projects), which were all statements that were refuted by the sample and subjected to analysis. The reference activity, whose arithmetic averages were between (6.00 - 6.57), all of which represent grades with a moderately high level. As for the most prominent challenges and obstacles facing scientific publishing among university professors according to the subject unit, they are (technical challenges, financial challenges, cognitive challenges, social challenges , Human Challenges), all of which fall between the arithmetic averages (5.5 - 6.47), which represents scores with a moderately high level, while the detailed levels of the scale are as follows: macroscopic with an arithmetic average (6.21), which is at the same low level, specific with an arithmetic average (6.3). It represents a moderately high level, clarity has a mean of (6.16), which represents a moderately high level, and visualization has a mean of (5.85), which represents a moderately high level. The study recommends the necessity of financial support for scientific publishing operations.
