AN ASSESSMENT OF BIODIVERSITY AWARNESS LEVEL FOR SANA'A UNIVERSITY STUDENTS – YEMEN

Abstract
The study aims were to examine the awareness level among the students, to evaluate the weaknesses and strengths of the current environment syllabus, and to suggest a syllabus that is likely to raise the level of biodiversity awareness. The review of previous related studies shows that adequate knowledge in terms of environmental knowledge in Yemen is generally lacking. Due to the importance of biodiversity in Yemen, and its connotations to socio-economic development in general, and rural livelihoods in particular, this study contributes towards enhancing the national framework related to enhancing of biodiversity conservation through biodiversity awareness among University students. This study utilized primary data collected through structured survey questionnaires. A random sample of student in the field of both Arts and Sciences from the University of Sana’a, in Yemen were targeted. The study reveals that around 52.1% of respondents indicated being aware about biodiversity as a result of related courses. On the other hand, more than 98% of the respondents showed positive response related to the importance of biodiversity.
