الملخص

In recent years, there has been a perfect growing interest in the phonological studies and research which have been translated into many different views and studies.  A variety of clear–cut phonological studies have been recently tackled by many linguists who managed to develop the correct and proper, but almost complete foundations for phonology. This study aims to investigate such efforts in a concise and scientific manner through we understand the precise and clear picture of the foundations of phonology at the period of first ancient Arabic linguists who were interested in such sort of studies. The researcher of this study didn't define them in details, however, the researcher talked about the most prominent linguists who tackled phonology in comprehensive phonological studies such as: Khalil ibn Ahmad Faraaheedi, Sibawayh, Ibn Jinni, Makki ibn Abi Talib, Ibn Sina and Al–Jahidh. The study formed a clear picture for their role in this science and removed the ambiguity by illustrating the roles carried out by these linguists in the phonological studies which turned out to be clear grounds for the phonologists in the past and recent era.
