Abstract

The Reasons Behind the Declining Results of Fourth Grade Pupils in "Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study" (TIMSS) in Science,  from Their Teachers and Science Supervisors’ Point of View in the State of Kuwait

 Abstract

              This study aimed at discovering the reasons behind the declining results of fourth grade pupils in “Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study” in Science, from their teachers’ and science supervisors’ point of view, in the State of Kuwait.

The sample of the study consisted of (81) teachers and supervisors. To achieve the objectives of the study, the researcher used a questionnaire to inquire the reasons behind the declining results of fourth grade pupils in (TIMSS) in science.

   The findings of the study were as the following:

-     The reasons behind declining results of fourth grade pupils in (TIMSS) in science from their teachers’ and their supervisors point of view were medium. The domains of the tool were medium. The pupil and family domain came in the first rank, The teacher domain came in the second rank and finally, came the curriculum and its teaching, in the last rank.

-     There were significant differences between the ranks mean of teachers and supervisors, in the teacher domain, between teachers and supervisors’ point of view, in the reasons behind declining results of fourth grade pupils in (TIMSS). The difference was in favor of teachers point of view, while there were no significant differences in curriculum and its teaching and the pupil and family domains.
