The status of strategic planning in Sudanese Universities: Khartoum University as a strategic model

Abstract
This paper deals with a study on strategic planning in higher education of Sudan with focusing on Khartoum University, as an example. It Depended on the base of the concept of the strategic planning and its culture and the stages of the strategic planning with focusing on improving the performance achieving quality. The study discussed the knowledge of the most important literature which have dealt with the issue of the strategic planning in Arab and Sudanese universities.
The study has adopted the analytical descriptive approach dealing with the issue of the study. Therefore, the experience of Khartoum university in planning has been evaluated to know the challenges hindering the application of the strategic planning in Sudanese high educational institutions in general. The most important results of the study are as follows:
There are serious shortcomings in the availability of strategic planning in Sudanese universities, and the lack to the features, norms and foundations to embrace the vision, mission and formulate goals.
According to the results, the study has embraced numbers of recommendation including: the necessity of applying the method of strategic planning in the higher education institution
