Abstract
This paper aims at identifying total quality management and the possibility of its application in the colleges of education at the University of Tripoli. The study posts the following sub-objectives:
- identify the concept, benefits, areas and requirements of total quality in the colleges of education, University of Tripoli.
- find out the feasibility of the application of total quality in the colleges of education, University of Tripoli management
- identifying the proposed project which contributes to increasing the effectiveness of the application of total quality management in the colleges of education, University of Tripoli.
To achieve the above mentioned objectives, the researchers used the descriptive approach and a questionnaire as a tool for data collection. The questionnaire was distributed to 84 teachers at the University of Tripoli and 16 administrative staff.
Major findings reveal that the responses of the sample in general to total quality management areas are weak with a percentage was of 49.20%. Financial support came in first place with a percentage of (64.31), while training for faculty members and their assistants to develop professionally came in last place with a percentage of (28.93%).
Major recommendations:
- Adopting a scientific strategy for university education development in general and education colleges in particular, so as emphasis is on innovation, creativity and knowledge production.
- Working to unify the concept of total quality and its basic elements to all parties in higher education institutions in general, and colleges of education in particular. There should be the same understanding of the concept of quality, its purposes and how it should be implemented by all employees.
There is an urging need to practice the process of improving quality and academic and professional accreditation for higher education institutions in general and colleges of education in particular.
